I had high hopes for Merit Chinese Takeaway, but this was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had with a local takeaway. The food was below average — greasy, bland, and clearly not made with care. The chicken balls were mostly soggy batter with very little meat inside, and the curry sauce tasted like it came from a packet. Rice was dry, noodles were overcooked, and nothing we ordered had the freshness or flavour you'd expect. But what stood out even more than the poor food was the atmosphere inside the shop. While I was waiting for my order, I witnessed the owner speaking to young staff members in a completely unacceptable way. It was unprofessional, condescending, and bordered on outright bullying. No one — especially young people likely in their first jobs — should be spoken to like that in the workplace. It made the whole experience uncomfortable and awkward.
